How long until a new Facebook Marketplace listing shows up in search?
About six minutes at the earliest. We looked at 6,658 new Facebook Marketplace listings that dibs searches found between September 28 and October 8, 2026. Facebook put 9 of them (0.1%) in search results before they were six minutes old. From six minutes on, they show up steadily.
So when you sort by newest and refresh, the newest listing you can see is already about six minutes old. Everyone else sorting by newest sees it at the same moment you do.
How late a listing usually shows up
The six minutes is the floor, not the typical case. Most of the searches in this sample were checked every 15 minutes. Across 2,461 listings those searches found, the typical one was 16 minutes old when it was first seen. One in ten was seen before 8.5 minutes, and one in ten took more than 34.
The long tail mostly comes from wide searches. Over a large radius, Facebook’s “newest first” is not strictly newest: a listing from the edge of a 250-mile radius can turn up after newer ones from nearby.
Signed out, it’s about an hour
Everything above comes from people’s own signed-in browsers. We also loaded one busy search, Los Angeles furniture sorted newest first, without signing in, every 2 minutes for 2 hours (60 loads).
The page barely moved. It changed in one batch, then again an hour later, with only two single listings in between. The 47 listings that appeared during the test were a median of 65 minutes old when they did. If you browse Marketplace signed out, you are looking at a page that can be up to an hour behind.
How we measured it
- Facebook’s search results page carries each listing’s creation time, to the second. Dibs records the moment a search first sees a listing. The difference is how old the listing was when it first appeared in search.
- The searches are ordinary dibs searches, run in their owners’ own signed-in Chrome, sorted newest first: 32 searches on 9 accounts. We counted only listings that were new to a search, not the first page a new search reads, which is old listings by design.
- Listings go up at random moments relative to when a search runs, so across thousands of them the youngest ages show how soon Facebook makes a listing searchable. That is the cliff at six minutes.
What this doesn’t show
- Why. The creation time may be when a seller started the listing rather than when it went public, and Facebook may review listings before showing them. Either would look the same from here.
- Facebook’s own saved-search notifications. Facebook does not publish how soon those arrive, and we did not measure them.
- Every market. 32 searches on 9 accounts, each with its own place and radius. The signed-out test was one search in one city from one connection, for two hours.
Questions people ask
- How long does it take for a new listing to show up on Facebook Marketplace?
- In Marketplace search, about six minutes at the earliest. Of 6,658 new listings dibs searches found between September 28 and October 8, 2026, 9 were in search results before they were six minutes old. Most showed up later than that.
- Why does “sort by newest” on Facebook Marketplace show listings that are already gone?
- Listings appear in search some minutes after they go up, so the first people to see one are those who checked right after it appeared. Signed out, the results page changed only about once an hour in our test, so a signed-out page can be up to an hour behind.
- Does checking more often help?
- Up to a point. A search checked every 15 minutes first saw a typical listing at 16 minutes old in our data. No check, however frequent, sees a listing before Facebook puts it in search, which was about six minutes at the earliest.
Dibs re-runs your Marketplace searches from your own Chrome and alerts you when a new listing matches, with how long ago it was listed, so you can see these numbers on your own searches.
