What Facebook’s own saved search notifications do

Facebook lets you save a Marketplace search, and “saved searches” is one of the Marketplace notification types you can turn on or off in its settings.
What it does
- Free, and built in — nothing to install.
- Notifies you through Facebook itself: the app on your phone, or the notifications menu on the site.
- Turned on or off per type under Marketplace → Settings → Notifications, next to updates and seller tips.
What it doesn’t
- Say how often a saved search is checked, or how long after a listing goes up the notification comes. Facebook’s help pages do not publish a number.
- Send anywhere but Facebook — no email digest, Telegram, Discord or webhook.
Use Facebook’s own alert if you are buying something for yourself, you are not racing other buyers for it, and a notification some time after it is listed is fine. Turn it on under Marketplace → Settings → Notifications → Saved searches and you are done.
How dibs does it

- Every listing a search has found stays in your history at dibs.deals with its picture, searchable by words and price, after Facebook has taken it down. A listing whose price drops far enough alerts once more, with the old price.
- Marks on the page you are browsing — next release
- Switch it on in the side panel and, while you browse Facebook yourself, dibs outlines listings that match a search you watch, tags the ones it already found, shows a price move on the card and greys out what your rules turned down. It ships in the next extension release; the version in the store today does not have it.
- On Facebook in particular
- It runs in your own Chrome, on the Facebook account you are already signed into. You never hand dibs a Facebook password, and there is no server logging in as you.
- It watches the search exactly as you set it up on Facebook — keywords, price, radius, category, sort — because it is that page.
- Rules on top of Facebook’s filters: words a listing must have, words that rule it out, a price range and an age limit, so “iPhone” stops alerting on cases.

What dibs won’t do
- Run with your computer off. Dibs checks from your own Chrome, so when the laptop is shut or Chrome is closed, it stops until you open it again. Facebook’s own alert does not have that problem.
- Run on your phone. It is a Chrome extension on your computer; the alerts reach your phone through Telegram, Discord or email.
- Chrome has to be signed in to Facebook. If Facebook signs you out, the search stops and the side panel and your dashboard say so.
Questions people ask
- Does Facebook Marketplace notify you of new listings?
- Yes, for a saved search, if “saved searches” is switched on under Marketplace → Settings → Notifications. Facebook does not publish how soon after a listing goes up that notification arrives.
- Why are my Facebook Marketplace alerts not working?
- Check the toggle first: Facebook turns saved-search notifications on and off separately from its other Marketplace notifications. Then check that your phone lets the Facebook app send notifications at all. If they arrive but late, that is the part Facebook does not promise anything about — and the part dibs is for.
- Can I get Facebook Marketplace alerts on Telegram, Discord or by email?
- Not from Facebook. Dibs sends the same listing to a browser notification, Telegram, Discord, an email digest or a webhook of your own, on every plan including free.
- Do I have to give dibs my Facebook login?
- No. Dibs runs inside your own Chrome, where you are already signed in, and reads only the search pages you chose to watch.
