What OfferUp’s own search alerts and similar item alerts do

In the OfferUp app, run a search and tap the bell (or “Set Search Alert”) to be notified when new listings match it. A similar item alert, set from a listing, notifies you when more of that item are posted.
What it does
- Free, in the OfferUp app.
- Delivered by push notification, email or both — you choose per notification type in the app’s settings.
- Two kinds: a search alert for a search term, and a similar item alert for one particular item.
What it doesn’t
- Stay narrow. OfferUp’s own example: an alert for “iPhone 15” also notifies you about other iPhone models and accessories like cases and screen protectors.
- Say how often it checks, or how soon after a listing goes up the alert comes.
- Get set up outside the app — the help describes the app only.
Use OfferUp’s own alert if you already live in the OfferUp app, you are browsing a category rather than hunting one model, and the related items are welcome rather than noise.
How dibs does it
Open your OfferUp search in Chrome, open the dibs side panel, click “Watch this search”. That is the setup.
- In your own browser
- Dibs re-opens the search in a collapsed background tab, signed in as you, and reads the listing results on it — nothing else on the page, and nothing on any other site.

- Alerts where you look
- A browser notification, Telegram, Discord, an email digest or a signed webhook, with the photo, price, place and a link straight to the listing. Every channel is on every plan, free included.
- A history that keeps the photos
- Every listing a search has found stays in your history at dibs.deals with its picture, searchable by words and price, after OfferUp has taken it down. A listing whose price drops far enough alerts once more, with the old price.
- Marks on the page you are browsing — next release
- Switch it on in the side panel and, while you browse OfferUp yourself, dibs outlines listings that match a search you watch, tags the ones it already found, shows a price move on the card and greys out what your rules turned down. It ships in the next extension release; the version in the store today does not have it.
- On OfferUp in particular
- It watches the OfferUp search page you built on offerup.com — the search term, price range, condition and sort you chose — and nothing wider.
- Rules on top: words a listing must have, words that rule it out, a price range and an age limit. “iPhone 15” without the cases is one excluded word.
- Alerts go to Telegram, Discord, email, a browser notification or a webhook — not only the OfferUp app.

What dibs won’t do
- Run with your computer off. Dibs checks from your own Chrome, so when the laptop is shut or Chrome is closed, it stops until you open it again. OfferUp’s own alert does not have that problem.
- Run on your phone. It is a Chrome extension on your computer; the alerts reach your phone through Telegram, Discord or email.
- Dibs watches OfferUp’s website, so a search is whatever offerup.com shows for your location.
Questions people ask
- How do I save a search on OfferUp?
- In the OfferUp app, search, then tap the bell at the top of the results or “Set Search Alert”. The bell turns green with a check mark. On a computer, dibs does the same job from Chrome: open the search on offerup.com and click “Watch this search” in the side panel.
- Why do OfferUp alerts show items I did not search for?
- Because a search alert is broad on purpose: OfferUp’s help says an alert for “iPhone 15” also covers other iPhone models and accessories. If you want only the thing you searched for, dibs lets you require or rule out words.
- Why are my OfferUp notifications not working?
- OfferUp’s help says each email and push notification has to be switched on individually under Account → Account Settings → Manage Notifications, that your phone has to allow OfferUp to notify, and that power saving and Do Not Disturb can block them.
